What is a Shooting Weddings workshop?

On this workshop event run by Damien and Julie, the group of 8 delegates will be split and independently taught for some parts of the day. Each group will swap so that both groups cover all the content. This has worked very well in the past and the workshop can be equally beneficial to those photographers working as a couple and those working on their own. Liberate your creativity, soak up the enthusiasm, drive and passion that Damien & Julie will share at these unique events.

Workshop specification:

Limited to 8 delegates, often split into two groups of 4.
  A 'real' couple.
The engaging teaching styles of Damien & Julie Lovegrove.
and Marko Nurminen, our in-house Lovegrove editing expert.

What you will learn:

Learn how to plan and shoot a wedding, including the preparations at the start of the day and getting to grips with flash when it's darker. Learn the tips and tricks of making wonderful pictures at every stage of a wedding.

You will learn new technical shooting skills and you will receive hands-on instruction about finding and controlling ambient light, plus mixing ambient light with off camera TTL flash. Please note, however, that this is not a workshop on how to use your camera. Please ensure you are familiar with your camera and flash, and know how to change settings quickly.

You will also learn how to interact with a wedding couple and generate a creative flow allowing you to 'see' pictures where you may think none exist.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed to give wedding photographers the confidence and skills to take beautiful images that the client will love. Simple, repeatable techniques are taught to provide you with all the necessary skills to take your wedding photography further.

What you will have at the end of the day to take away:

1. Whatever the weather we will be producing portfolio images that you can use right away, on your website, in brochures or on your studio walls. The two models will be a 'real' married couple who will be patient with us.

2. You will have a new repertoire of images you can shoot and, above all, access to professional image making skills that have a high repeatable value. You will have the edge over your competition and you will feel renewed excitement for wedding photography.

Recommended kit list:

1. A DSLR camera with two or three professional lenses covering 17mm to 200mm. When booking your place please state in 'additional information' what camera kit you'll be using (ie Canon/Nikon).
2. One TTL flash gun with a Sto-Fen or similar diffuser, preferably with a means of using it off camera. For Nikon users without a pop up flash, an SU800 will do the job of a commander or you can use a second Speedlight set up as a master, and for Canon users an STE2 is ideal or a second 500 series Speedlight can be set up as a master.
3. A bag you can dip in and out of to change lenses as required.
4. A monopod with a ball and socket head (not a monopod head), fast lens, or a camera capable of very high ISO.
5. Suitable clothing.

Please bring along all the kit you would normally use when shooting a wedding, including wet weather gear (although we hope it won't be necessary) as of course we all know weddings have to go ahead regardless of the weather!

Damien and Julie always use a monopod at weddings, and will be using them throughout the day. If you don't have one it will be worthwhile borrowing or buying one before the course as you may well find it frustrating to have movement on your images shot in low light. If this is the case, do ensure you have a plate on the bottom of your camera to fix it to the monopod. Our advice is, 'if in doubt - bring it', as it would be frustrating to be without something.

Testimonials:

LLOYD SAID: I was on the first course on the 16th of November. A fantastic day great location learnt a lot. You won’t be disappointed.
The techniques showed are simple, easy to remember and very effective.

PAUL SAID: Absolutely stunning images again. As you say Damien, images must have the WOW factor and yours certainly do.

DAVID SAID: May I just take this opportunity to echo the words from my fellow college Carole. The winter wedding workshop was everything I wanted and more, both you and Julie are truly talented people going well above what is expected of you. Once again many thanks.

PETE SAID: Thanks for another great days tuition by Julie and yourself, your skills of teaching match those of your work and the enthusiasm from both of you is infectious.

JENNIE SAID: Just a quick message to say how fantastic this wedding workshop was on Monday, I really loved it and have learnt so much from spending the day with you and Julie… you’re both very inspirational! I can’t wait for the next DVDs and think I’ll try and book up for a computer workshop with Marco – he’s fab!

ROSIE SAID: A great day….can’t believe a week’s gone by already! Love your courses and always leave wanting to learn more! Probably need a term, rather than a day!

CAROLE SAID: Thanks for a fantastic day, I learned so much from begining to end from both of you. My brain is fit to burst with all the info and you taught in such a way that it was easy to remember. I used to dread using flash indoors at weddings, my pictures were dull and lifeless and now they look so bright and crisp!! You had taught me how to do that within the first 15 minutes! I used to dread shooting at low shutter speeds but thanks to Julie wont worry about that any more. There are loads of techniques I need to go off and practice now, I never knew a monopod could be so useful haha
It was a great course well run and it was fun meeting the other photographers too, many thanks and have a great Christmas

The exception to this is if we have prior notice and are able to put a cancellation place back online AND your place is resold. In this event we will of course make a full refund or credit to you.
