Mini TT1 & Flex TT5 Radio Triggers for Nikon
The wait is nearly over… Keep up to date with the latest information on Pocket Wizard for Nikon and their release date here.
Product updates from manufacturer ~ June 2010
Nikon MiniTT1 and FlexTT5: Significant progress has been made on the
firmware this month as expected. PocketWizard have been selectively getting beta
units into the field for further testing. They have been reluctant (to
say the least) of publishing a release date simply due to the
unpredictable nature of the firmware development. Best case from where we are today is shipments
beginning in August.
Product updates from manufacturer ~ May 2010
Nikon MiniTT1 and FlexTT5: PocketWizard continue to expand camera
compatibility and functionality while eradicating bugs. Their small beta
test group receives frequent updates and once that frequency drops the
beta program will expand. Production is tentatively scheduled to begin
this summer once the firmware is ready.
Product updates from manufacturer ~ April 2010
Nikon MiniTT1 and FlexTT5: As some of you may have seen, PocketWizard have
begun internal testing of the first Nikon prototypes. This work
continues and will lead to broader testing in the coming weeks. Initial
testing was done using the D3 but now we have begun compatibility work
on other Nikon cameras. The beta process will begin on a limited range
of camera models. The question of when we will go into production will
be determined by how the testing process proceeds.
Product updates from manufacturer ~ March 2010
Prototype Test: PocketWizard asked Mark Wallace if he wanted a little time with the first Nikon
system to shoot a short video. View it here. Mark had about ten
minutes with the system and did not get to try everything. There is a lot still to figure out
and a whole lot of testing still to do. Pocket Wizard have confirmed they have a few of the first functioning prototype FlexTT5 Transceivers
that work under normal i-TTL operation and high speed sync using the D3
with SB900’s and SB800’s. They have mentioned also that they will continue to build the firmware out to add compatibility and
functionality with key Nikon cameras and features. Then they will continue testing and
tweaking.
So the big question is “when?” If things go well, it will be sooner. If there are major
surprises, it will be later… watch this space.
Product updates from manufacturer ~ February 2010
"Nikon Versions: Progress is cranking along. The hardware is ready but the heart of the product is the firmware and that
is still in development. We’ve seen units firing a flash but there is
still a ways to go to have enough functionality to bring the product to
market. No, we’re not ready to peg a date just yet."
Product updates from manufacturer ~ December 2009
"Nikon Mini/Flex: We have made substantial progress on the
Nikon ControlTL system and the Nikon versions of the MiniTT1 and
FlexTT5. The industrial design, circuit board, and hardware
engineering is complete. The remaining development activities are
focused on firmware.
We are planning several rounds of beta releases over the next few
months while we continue to program our ControlTL system for Nikon’s
camera and flash operating systems. Firmware development and testing
is a very complex process of mapping ControlTL’s advanced functionality
to the millions of potential combinations of Nikon camera and flash
interactions.
