What is a Camera Skills workshop?

On this full featured workshop Damien will impart his expert knowledge in an easy to understand and fun to learn way. During the day you will have a 2 hour photoshoot and you will be taking pictures of teenage models (aged 15+ years) alongside Damien. No prior knowledge is needed for this back to basics event, just a passion to learn. You will be shooting in the woods, under trees, by the lake and in the ornamental garden. You will learn about light and composition, as well as a thorough grounding in the technical stuff.

Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax shooters are catered for in this foundation craft skill training, to put you in control of your camera and open up greater opportunities for creating wonderful pictures. Damien's back to basics, no nonsense approach will ensure you have the freedom to make informed decisions about camera settings.

The basic controls on any SLR are quite straightforward to use. Getting your head around the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO sensitivity is the first step on the road to camera mastery. Once Damien has explained this special relationship he will then show you how to apply this knowledge using the camera exposure modes to achieve the desired effect in the image.

Workshop specification:

2 teenage models
1 tutor (Damien Lovegrove)
Up to 10 delegates

What you will learn:

1. You will learn how to use your digital SLR creatively. Damien will empower you to make informed decisions about the exposure and image quality settings of your camera. You will learn about lenses and perspective, f numbers, and shutter speeds, bit depth and file formats. In fact everything you ought to know, but were too afraid to ask.

2. Damien will be covering the basic functions and foundations of camera use that are common to all digital SLRs. It is therefore advisable to have your camera manual with you on the day.

When booking your place please state in 'additional information' what camera kit you'll be using (ie Canon/Nikon)

Who should attend?

If you find yourself hesitating to switch away from your camera's program/auto modes or you are frustrated at your lack of foundation knowledge then this event is for you. No one is too young or old to be a photographer.

What you will have at the end of the day to take away:

You will have a set of wonderful pictures that you took on your camera and the knowledge needed to recreate them. You will have confidence and control of your photography. You will be able to pursue your hobby or career with a renewed enthusiasm and passion.

An ideal present?

If you or your partner has a new camera and not the know how to get the most out of it then this day will make a great gift.

Testimonials:

BILL SAID: Just finished downloading my pictures from todays camera skills workshop and can't believe that I took these fantastic shots! I would like to thank Damien and you for making us so welcome. The amount I learned in just one day was more than a whole year doing a GCSE in photography at night school. (Seriously). I'm not the first to say it but Damien has a teaching style that is so understandable and his enthusiasm can't help but rub off on you. I will certainly be attending another workshop soon and my advice to anyone who is thinking about booking one and hasn't yet done so, just do it, you won't regret it.

JOHN SAID: Damien, thank you once again for another tremendous workshop - you covered so much ground thoroughly without getting bogged down. Delighted! I feel I now have received a stamp of approval and now qualified to call myself, and work as, a professional photographer. You make a great mentor - everytime I meet you I learn loads and my understanding and inspiration deepens. Thank you.
