The Business of Weddings

Overview -

Here at Lovegrove Consulting, we listen to our customers, and so have created an essential 3-day training programme. This amazing workshop event, run by Damien, Julie and Marko, will combine tuition on how to shoot weddings, the business of wedding photography and how to get to grips with the post production editing process. This unique Lovegrove event aims to be the complete training package for photographers of all levels.

Day 1: Shooting Weddings
Learn how to plan and shoot a wedding, including the preparations at the start of the day, to getting to grips with low ambient light and flash when it's darker. Learn the tips and tricks of making wonderful pictures at every stage of a wedding.

Day 2:
The Business of Weddings
A full, tips of the trade packed one-day seminar from Damien Lovegrove. Subjects covered include marketing, product, sales, finance, and customer care. A high value presentation packed with useful information from one of the top earning wedding photographers in the UK. Damien and Julie have photographed over 350 weddings, and average sales have been in excess of £7,500. This day will be opened up to photographers not attending the full 3 days.

Day 3:
Wedding Image Processing Seminar
An all-in-one easy to understand post-production training day. This day will give you all the tools necessary to start editing and to create beautifully edited imagery that your customers will love. This day will give you an insight into the complete Lovegrove digital workflow. If you are new to raw shooting, or have limited digital manipulation knowledge then this day will be an ideal foundation.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed to give wedding photographers the confidence and skills to take beautiful images that the client will love. Simple, repeatable techniques are taught to provide you with all the necessary skills to take your wedding photography further.

What you will have at the end of the day to take away:

1. Whatever the weather we will be producing portfolio images that you can use right away, on your website, in brochures or on your studio walls. Our models will always be patient with us to ensure you get the best images possible.

2. You will have a new repertoire of images you can shoot and, above all, access to professional image making skills that have a high repeatable value. You will have the edge over your competition and you will feel renewed excitement for wedding photography.

Please ensure you are familiar with your camera and flash, and know how to change settings quickly.

Travelling to Old Down Manor

The manor itself can be tricky to find as depending which direction you come from, you can come across a set of locked gates on Foxholes lane and then don't know where to go. Find the entrance to Old Down Country Park (also on Foxholes Lane) and follow the driveway. Park in the car park on the left, and continue walking up the drive until you see the cafe on your left (old stone buildings). The manor is then opposite on your right. It's a new looking building - not how you expect a manor to look!

Days 2 & 3 are located at the Lovegrove Studio

Recommended kit list:

1. A DSLR camera.
2. Two or three professional lenses ideally covering 20mm to 200mm.
3. One TTL flash gun with a Sto-Fen or similar diffuser, preferably with a means of using it off camera.
4. A monopod with a ball and socket head (not a monopod head), a fast lens, or a camera capable of very high ISO. We highly recommend the Gitzo Carbon Monopod with Manfrotto Ball Head.
5. Wet weather clothing (although we hope it won't be necessary!).

Monopods
Damien and Julie always use a monopod at weddings. If you don't have one it will be worthwhile borrowing or buying one before the course as you may well find it frustrating to have movement on your images shot in low light. Do ensure you have a plate on the bottom of your camera to fix it to the monopod. Our advice is, 'if in doubt - bring it', as it would be frustrating to be without something.

Dear Julie

It was a great pleasure to meet you, Damien and your team and from my first contact with Blaise, and please give her my best regards as she approaches the birth of her new baby, to the personal touches from you, Damien and your daughter who catered for us so well. The whole experience was friendly and so professional that one could not fail to be impressed by the team that you have assembled. Your own experience, knowledge and enthusiasm was extremely motivational and I am certainly energised and wanting to raise the bar on my own expectations for developing a quality business. You and Damien have helped me immensely and it was undoubtedly one of the best training experiences that I have ever had.

I am absolutely sure that you will see me again because I gained so much useful knowledge and I would like to add to this with experience of urban and general portraits that will complement my plans for a wedding business with pre-shoots and follow on shoots for family portraits etc. I also learned so much from Marco and although I have been using lightroom for a number of years this part of the training will undoubtedly take my image processing to a new level and I cannot wait to put it into effect. Your knowledge and experience of natural lighting that I personally prefer to shoot was excellent as was Damien's business knowledge that will ensure that I can now develop a sound business structure that will certainly exceed my previous expectations. I cannot think of enough superlatives to adequately cover the whole experience of the last three days and would like to send you my heartfelt thanks and best wishes for the future.

Best wishes
Peter

Having just come down to earth from three of the most inspiring days of my life, I want to thank you all.

Damien and Julie - the way you teach and the way you share is superb. Before the course, I knew where I wanted to go with my new business - now, I know how to get there! (And importantly, keeping myself on track!) The shooting day has given me so much more confidence, and I am so excited to go and shoot my next wedding. On the second day, I wrote 24 pages of notes - and I know there are some real gems within - trust me, I shall act upon them!

Marko - your expertise with Photoshop and Lightroom is awe-inspiring, and you are a brilliant teacher. Thank you so much, and thank you for the actions too. I can't wait to apply your teachings to my next set of images! Thanks must also go to Blaise and the people behind the scenes - you really do have a truly admirable set-up and your success is well deserved.

Neil said: I just want to say how professional, educational, courteous and well planned  the 3 day course was, please pass on my thanks to Julie, Damien and Marko. I will be booking with you again. Many thanks once more for a throughly inspirational three day workshop.

Julie and Damien's method of training is fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable and at the end of day I felt enthused, invigorated utterly shattered too! I look forward to further courses with them in the future.

Today with Marko was probably the most enlightening eight hours I have ever spent and look forward to putting into action the skills I have learnt today.

I would like to express my grateful thanks for the most useful 3 days of education I have ever experienced.

At some stage you must have been in the same position as us, knowing you can do better but not knowing how, and laying out the course to address this in the way you have is inspirational. The content of the course was exactly what I needed.

Beyond that, judging the skills of those in front of you to tune the content and understand what needed to be demonstrated and practiced made every moment count. The enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, and highly interactive way it was all put across left me wanting for nothing.

The Lovegrove experience is clearly not constrained to photographic clients, it is an ethos across your business that I believe we all enjoyed throughout the 3 days of training, and one that I hope to emulate.

I have much to take in, but plans to implement my learning are already being formed. When they are in place and under way I hope to meet up again to help keep the plans in trim.
